It also protects your personal belongings, so keep a list of jewellery and artwork that are valued at more than the basic coverage—and review the list annually. Home insurance also protects you if someone were to get injured on your property or if a flood in your home spread to your neighbour's place. Consider optional water coverage. You'll be protected against water caused by flooding rivers, heavy rainfall and sewer and septic system backups. Damage expenses are covered, and living expenses will be covered, too, if you have to leave your home while repairs are being done. Optional service line coverage can protect your utility lines. As a homeowner, you're responsible for the underground service lines that run from the street to your home. So if a frozen water line bursts, a sewer pipe ruptures from a tree root or an underground power line deteriorates, you are required to fix or replace them. Ask your home insurance provider if they offer sewer line coverage. Optional home equipment breakdown coverage can protect your electronics and appliances. This includes your air conditioning system, water heater, electronics and major appliances that need to be repaired or replaced. If you have to move out, your living expenses will be covered. Legal expense insurance is included at no additional cost. Use the complimentary Legal Expense Insurance 1 to access counsel if you're having a dispute with a contractor or disagreement with a neighbour over the property line. It covers reasonable legal expenses incurred while pursuing or defending an accepted claim. Review your home insurance every year before renewing it. This is a good time to make adjustments to your policy so it reflects any recent renovations or major purchases. CAA Home Insurance 2 offers complimentary policy reviews—regardless of whom your policy is with. If you're a CAA Member, you can save 10% 3 on your home insurance—and even more if you bundle CAA Home and Auto Insurance 4 . Talk to a licensed CAA Insurance Agent for details.
