One nice thing we can say about 2020 is that it was the year camping made a comeback. According to a fall report prepared by Kampgrounds of America (KOA), one in four North Americans took their very first camping trip last year. Another 46 percent say they returned to camping in 2020 after being away from it for several years. KOA estimates that 18 percent of last year's newcomers will book another campsite in the future. Camping is likely to be even more popular this year, and it's not hard to understand why. It's one of the few summer travel options deemed low risk by the Canadian government. Physically distanced by nature, it answers our burning desire to get outdoors and away from the four walls of home. With proper planning, a relaxing getaway in the great outdoors is just a reservation away, even for beginners. If you're new to camping, read on for some great spots to check out in Ontario, our tips about what gear to bring and how to pack it all up. 32 | CAA MAGAZINE C AMPING FOR BEGINNERS
